How to temporarily keep your cigars fresh without a humidor

Have you ever been on vacation, or away from home and your travel humidor doesn’t hold the amount of cigars you want to purchase? Or, maybe you are a newbie and haven’t purchased a humidor yet? We’ve all had situations where we need a quick trick to keep our cigars fresh. Lucky for you, there is a cheap and simple way to temporarily keep your cigars fresh without a humidor.

Items you will need:

  1. Distilled Water: You can find this in any grocery store, or you can boil your own water and let it cool before you use it (DO NOT USE TAP WATER, AS IT WILL MOLD, WHICH WILL ALSO MAKE YOUR CIGARS MOLDY).
  2. Paper Towel
  3. Small Zip Lock Bag
  4. Gallon Zip Lock Bag

Let’s Get Started!

  1. Take the distilled water and dampen the paper towel (DAMP! not wet).
  2. Fold paper times as many times as you need to, then place the damp paper towel in the small zip lock bag.
  3. Take your cigars and put them in the gallon sized zip lock bag.
  4. Place small zip lock bag inside of gallon zip lock bag with the cigars, DO NOT CLOSE IT! LEAVE IT OPEN.
    • The dampness from the paper towel will create humidity for your cigars. The small zip lock bag keeps the moisture from coming into direct contact with your cigars.
  5. Close the gallon zip lock bag. This will trap the humidity inside the bag with your cigars.
  6. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT HUMIDITY VARIES FROM ONE ENVIRONMENT TO ANOTHER, SO CHECK THE PAPER TOWEL EVERY FEW DAYS.
  7. WHEN THE PAPER TOWEL STARTS TO DRY OUT, REPEAT THE STEPS ABOVE.
  8. You can also replace the gallon zip lock bag with an airtight Tupperware bowl if you want something a little more sturdy.
  9. HAPPY SMOKING!!
